Girls Freshman Swimming, Girls Varsity Swimming · Lakeland High School Girls Varsity Swimming finishes 15th place

Meet Recap

Lakeland girls swimming and diving had 3 girls compete in the Finals of the MHSAA Girls Division 1 State Championship. Sophomore diver Stella Fairbanks had a great meet with her best score of 392.15 placing 5th overall with All-State honors. Junior swimmer Kate Doyle competed in Finals in the 500 yard Freestyle swimming a season best time of 5:05.81 and placing 10th overall (she also finished 28th in 200 Freestyle). Senior swimmer Emma Hazel earned All-State honors in both her individual events placing 4th in the 100 Fly with a time of 55.98 and 4th in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 55.57. Together they scored 51 total points placing Lakeland 15th out of the 37 scoring teams.

In addition to those who earned points during the meet, the following swimmers also competed:

Riley Faulker (19th in the 200 yd Freestyle)  (23rd in 100 yd Freestyle)

Isabel Fairbanks (19th in 200 IM) (22nd in 100 Breaststroke)

Two Freestyle Relay teams, the 200 and the 400, also competed for Lakeland.  The 200 yd team, comprised of Hazel, Fairbanks, Doyle, and Faulkner, finished 19th.  The 400 yd team, consisting of the same swimmers, finished 17th.

Volleyball:

4. Class C top-ranked Bronson is plenty familiar with tonight’s Quarterfinal opponent, No. 2 Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central – Sturgis Journal

5. Class B No. 4 Niles is hoping to add to its first District and Regional titles with a first Quarterfinal win, over No. 3 Lake Odessa Lakewood – Niles Daily Star

6. Class A No. 3 Grand Rapids Christian downed top-ranked Rockford in the Regional, a big step as the Eagles pursue their first MHSAA championship in the sport with No. 4 DeWitt up next – FOX17

Girls Golf:

Traverse City West’s Anika Dy was named Miss Golf for the second time by the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association – Traverse City Record-Eagle

 

Cross Country:

Coldwater’s Shuaib Aljabaly and Lansing Catholic’s Olivia Theis were named Mr. Cross Country and Miss Cross County, respectively, by the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association – Coldwater Daily Reporter

 

Hockey:

Girls Swimming & Diving:

1. Honorable mention Spring Lake will send 10 athletes to the Lower Peninsula Division 3 Finals, including three divers – Grand Haven Tribune

2. Hamilton standout Paige Kuhn is banking on a strong finish in the final meet of her high school career – Holland Sentinel

3. Gaylord sophomore Grace Wambier is a school record holder and hopes to add to her accomplishments at the Division 3 Finals – Gaylord Herald Times

4. No. 7 Brighton is aiming to claim the Division 1 team championship with arguably its strongest assemblage of experienced contenders under coach Jason Black – Livingston Daily Press & Argus

Meet Recap

Lakeland Eagle Swimmers & Divers completed the 2017 Swim Season with a LVC Record of 4-1 by defeating Walled Lake Western, 128-58.

Senior’s Melissa Sherman and Riley Faulkner were top point scorers both contributing 11 points

Eagle Swimmers showed how strong they were winning 11 or 12 events.

1st place finishers were:

Emma Hahn winning 200 Freestyle & 500 Freestyle
Kate Doyle winning the 200 IM
Emma Hazel winning the 50 Freestyle
Stella Fairbanks winning 1 meter Diving
Riley Faulkner winning 100 Butterfly
Melissa Sherman winning 100 Freestyle
Isabel Fairbanks winning 100 Backstroke
Peyton Michalski winning 100 Breaststroke

Winning Relays were:
200 Medley Relay-Kate Doyle, Riley Faulkner, Melissa Sherman, MacKenzie Doyle

Game Recap

Thursday, the 2017 JV Football team defeated Walled Lake Northern 22-21 in a thrilling game that brought an end to the season. As a result of the victory, the team finished the season 7-1 overall, with its only loss coming to a non-LVC team. Thus, the JV Football team can claim the JV level Conference Title for the first year of the Lakes Valley Conference.

Game Recap

Thursday, the Freshman Football completed an undefeated 8-0 season by defeating Walled Lake Northern, 14-7. The game, played at Lakeland, lived up to the Bogie Lake Road rivalry as both teams battled til the end.

In the inaugural season of the LVC, the FR Football team earned the right to claim the FR Conference Championship.
